My love for this movie might just have something to do with me rating this book so high. I’m definitely looking forward to seeing it. I have to say this is one occasion where I have to recommend sticking to watching the film. Since I haven’t seen novelizatin film, I can’t say how close the novel is, but I wonder if they went with novelizatio different The book is well written, I underlined a lot. I was curious if this would lend any more insight or depth into it.

I did watch the first 40 minutes or so of the movie in tandem with reading but now I look forward to watching the rest: The details of the plot are a closely guarded secret, though Joss himself novelizqtion described it as ‘a straight-up, balls-out, really terrifying horror movie’, adding, ‘it is not novelizatikn a slasher in the woods.

But what awaits them is an unbelievable terror instead.

I thought Whedon was losing his touch a bit with such obvious character choices, but it gets mostly explained at the end. Sitterson and Hadley are sitting in a control room watching everything the kids do through pinhole cameras throughout the cabin, and the crazy guy at the gas station is in on it he made too many hintish comments for it to all be a coincidence.


It’s not the best horror I’ve read but I still enjoyed it very much. Others may find it weird as the film and book are pretty much the same but I enjoyed the book so much more, I connected to the characters more and I found it easier to follow. I found myself unnerved by the violence, not because it 4 stars out of 5 I loved this movie, it is in fact one of my all time favorites. But fuck, everyone was far from the truth! And I find that so disappointing.

On the surface it seems to be a twist on a B-movie gore-fest though not as gory as most with undertones of Evil Dead, but at heart it’s asking questions about the essence of the horror genre, why it draws interest, how far would we push to survive, and at what price.

And then there are the exception to the rule when the book was well written, compulsive reading and just a joyous experience; I could bore you with a list of those that fall into this category but I’ll save you the Arnold Rimmer rant and just say this novel is a perfect horror book; short, sadistic and really funny, great monsters, deaths and all the juicy stuff that makes horror books serious fun. The turns it takes are pretty mind-boggling, and the end of the movie is truly demented.

Get to Know Us. The more intriguing and mysterious of the two are the second set that are not found in your typical horror setting. Give it a shot.
