Normally I enjoy Lilith Saintcrow’s work, but this one just irked me the whole time. The protagonist exhibits almost no agency until maybe the last quarter of the. It’s bad enough that Selene is part slave to Nikolai, the Prime Power of Saint City, but she’s got her brother Danny and she’s got her job at the college. Lilith Saintcrow is an American author of urban fantasy, historical fantasy, paranormal romance She has also published several short stories  and the free online serial Selene (with characters from her Dante Valentine series).

Saintcrow builds rich, detailed worlds based in the darker side of magic and human behavior, then she throws in deep relationships, loyalties, and kick ass action, gives it a spin and builds a gripping storyline.

As a warning, you should know that this isn’t a romance. I am sajntcrow categorizing this as a romance as there was none from Selene’s side. Open Preview See a Problem? From what I can gather, Saintcrow released this story a while ago, but I hadn’t discovered the wonder that is her writing at that point, so I missed it.
I selen how they navigated through the morass of what is and what should be, and what is desired. Saintcrpw reread the entire Dante Valentine series to pass the time. Yes, she finally starts opening her brain to other interpretations of life, but she felt like a weak heroine, which is not what I’m used to from Saintcrow. Unless she wants to.
The short story sequel helps a great deal in showing us a Selene who is beginning to create a life for herself, to move past her self-loathing, and make active decisions for herself. Lilith Saintcrow is an American author of urban fantasyhistorical saintvrowparanormal romance and steampunk novels.
